Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Biostatistics, Operations Research, Physics, Economics, Applied Mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience using statistical software like R, Python, S-Plus, SAS, or similar.
- Some experience (internship or work) with data and quantitative methods, including statistics and causal inference.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant quantitative field (like those mentioned above) or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of statistical data analysis methods, such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods.
- Experience using machine learning on large datasets.
- Ability to draw conclusions from data and recommend actions.
- Ability to teach others and quickly learn new techniques (e.g., differential privacy).
- Ability to choose the right statistical tools for data problems.
About the Role:
As a Data Scientist at Google, you will help drive decisions using data. You will work with large data sets, apply statistical methods, and provide insights that help improve Google’s products and business processes. You won’t just analyze data; you’ll work with engineers, product managers, and other teams to help improve areas such as advertising, user experience, and network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze large data sets and solve complex problems using advanced methods.
- Present your findings to different teams and make business recommendations (e.g., cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, experiment analysis).
- Research and develop methods to improve products like ads quality, search quality, and user behavior modeling.
- Collaborate with teams to suggest and develop new data-driven, privacy-preserving products.
- Use methods like machine learning, statistics, and econometrics to answer important business questions.
